The Government of India has realized that the best
way to communicate with the people of North East
is Music. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has
begun conducting a series of rock concerts across
the states of the North East as part of a consumer
awareness initiative.
Four bands
were chosen - Soulmate (Shillong), Cassini’s
Division (Calcutta), Celestial Doom (Guwahati),
and Chakra (Guwahati).
The theme of
the initiative is Wake Up (Jago Grahak Jago).
The bands
were required to each write a song teaching
listeners to stand up for their rights as
consumers, and to WAKE UP (shop with eyes open). A
CD was compiled with the songs from each band and
these are being distributed at the venues across
the North East.
Some of the
basic issues the song had to tackle were:
* Don’t pay
more than the MRP
* Always look for an ISI mark
* Always ask for a bill
* Make sure your doctor has a valid registration
number
* Always check the expiry date (in case of
medicines) and ‘best before date’ (in case of
packaged food).
* Make sure the retailer uses proper weights.
* Make sure a branded product has a known logo
(anti fake products)
The bands
have already played resoundingly successful
concerts at Shillong and Guwahati as part of the
first leg of the tour.
